    Default Fuel Economy Issues

    Hi Guys

Been having a lot of fun with my new 2011 Venzanator but am dismayed at the fuel economy. I only have approx. 3000 km on the car and have not reset the fuel computer. The combined fuel economy is 10.5 l/100 km, which by my reckoning is about 21 mpg. We have taken the car on some rather long highway trips, but it is about 60% city and 40% highway.

Is this about what you guys are getting? Will it get better as the motor runs-in?

    Thanks for your input.

When I first got my car the display said I was getting 16-19 MPG for 2009 V6. i called the dealer and they stated is was not the case . I havent done my own check but I can tell you the posted MPG is allllll wrong.

My 2011 4 cyl is getting very good mileage. First two tanks after 1000 miles and we are on a trip. hwy without ac at 70 mph we got 30mpg. The second tank some ac and some hill climbing but still at 70mph and it was 27 mpg.

When you write.... "having a lot of fun....." if you are executing fast starts, hard stops, sport shifting and manuevers, you'll get lower mileage - you are driving a +2-ton vehicle. I've had my '09 for two years tomorrow and get 20-22 City, 28-30 highway and 26 combined. E10, and in some parts of the country, E15 is in use which WILL drop you MPG's. As indicated previously, ambient temp also has an affect of MPG's.

Also, consider resetting your mpg calculator and use "Average MPG'" versus "Current MPG's"

You don't have drive like granny to get good mpg's but hard starts and manual shifting beyond normal shift points will have an afect on MPG's

Hello everyone. Just registered and am looking for your honest opinions on engine options for the venza? I4 vs V6. I am not an owner yet.
I will be doing some occasional towing, short and long distance no more than 3000# max (trailer&load)
Will I be happy with the I4 vs the V6?
Do I really need the trailer prep pkg?
Will the I4 really give me that better mileage assuming my driving habits are conservative.
Test drove a V6 last weekend, loved everything about it.
Will be test driving an I4 today.
Thank's in advance for your opinions.
    Jim.........

If you're going to be towing you'll have to have the V-6 with the factory installed tow package - that will allow you to tow 3500 lbs. I towed a car/trailer package of about 2500 lbs from Mississippi to Tennessee with my 2010 Venza and averaged about 17 mpg even going through the mountains. I thought that was pretty good since I get the same mileage while towing with my V-6 2011 Tacoma.

    Thank's for your input damnfingers.
Based on a test drive of both the I4 and V6 earlier this week, I would go with the V6 and most definately the factory tow package.
As far as what I haul, I have a small antique Allis-Chalmers farm tractor (about 1700 lb's) and some antique lawn and garden equipment I would be towing to shows 2 to 3 times a year.
I rent trailers from U-Haul as I cannot justify having my own as yet. Even renting the u-haul 5x10 open trailer for my farm tractor, I don't think I would have an issue with hauling and stopping.
I definately don't see an issue with my lawn and garden equipment being towed as I would rent the smaller trailers.
Your senario of the car/trailer package is a good example of what I might expect to get.
    Thank's again.

    Hi guys...

Just a quick follow-up on this thread, I've just crunched the numbers and the trip computer is really spot-on as to the calculations. I really am averaging 10.5 l/100 km. That isn't that bad, but I've adjusted my driving to get better economy. Trying to keep the rpm below or at 2000 (we have the V-6) when cruising. Notice that the 6-speed tranny allows for cruising at about 100 km/h (60 mph).

    Any other tips?

Default 2010 Venza 4 cyl Gas Mileage

I cannot convert the mileages stated in km. My 2010 4-cylinder now has 4,000 miles and it consistently gets 22.5 mpg around town (all local driving). I took it on a trip for the first time on the interstate lately (125 miles each way) with the air conditioning on and drove at 72 mph and got 32 mpg actual mileage as measured by the gallons actually used between the starting and ending fill ups. I am pleased with that mileage all things considered.
