New Venza Oil type
How did you find out type of oil delivered from factory?
Synthetic or conventional?
Thanks about to do service and want the straight scoop.
Stop at new owner reception at the dealership.
Service Manager told me if oil filler cap says 0-20 it is Synthetic, 5-20 it is conventional.

On the 2010 models the 4 cylinder comes from the factory with synthetic oil and it should be used in changes thereafter (at 10,000 mile intervals). The 6 cylinders do not come with synthetic oil -- although it can be used in oill changes thereafter (and is actually superior to nonsynthetic oils). The 6's call for 5,000 mile intervals, if you use a nonsynthetic. If you really want the best oil in your vehicles use AMSOIL, the best synthetic by far (and you can change it less often than other brands).
Thanks for the reply back.
How did you find this information out?
I am surprised my dealership did not know that.
Toyota Venza oil change - 10,000 miles
Thanks for the link.
Venza again is omitted which is probably due to newness and small production volume.
Like the AMSOIL recommendation. I'll try to find distributor here in Chicago.
Appreciate the feedback.
I emailed Toyota to ask about the oil change interval in my 4cyl. 2010 Venza, I was surprised by the answer since the manual really stresses the use of 0w-20.
Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.
We appreciate the time you have taken to email us with your inquiry.
The owner's manual states you can use SAE 5W-20 or 0W-20, since the vehicle is not specific to using synthetic oil only, we advise to change your oil every 5,000 miles or 6 months which ever occurs first.

Toyota Customer Experience
0 vs. 5W
The 0 vs. 5W indicates that the 0 will remain fluid in colder temperatures than the 5. In either case, where you live -- i.e., how far North -- and how low the temperature gets is the factor to consider in deciding which of the two to choose. If I lived in Maine or Canada, I'd go with the 0. If I lived further South, say Maryland, I would be fine using either. Changing synthetic oil every 5000 miles is a waste of money. Using Amsoil, I'll change the WIX filter every 5000 miles and the oil once a year. The advice you receive from a Toyota representative is, as you might expect, overly cautious.
Thank you for forwarding that information.

It would make more sense if they reccomend 0-w20 and 10,000 miles or 5-w20 and 5,000 miles. I am disappointed in Toyota.
Thanks again. I am due for a oil change and will ask for synthetic change 0-20. We will see what they say due free 5000 mile service offer.
