In the US a dealer has to do that. But, they only do so for qualified reasons as deemed necessary by certain criteria. One example would be a homeland security professional who job requires the disablement of the daytime running lights. There are a few other select situations this can done for. I believe in Canada the process is the same.

I have a 2011 FWD V6 Venza and the turn signal stalk, which also contains the switch for the lights, has a DRL off postion at the very bottom of the rotary switch. The next postion up is auto, then parking, then headlights/all. Of course I have a US version so maybe those Venza's produced for sale in Canada may have a different setup.

    Unhappy

Well, I could be wrong. I never actually looked. I thought I read it in the manual. I'll have to look now that the wife is home with the car. Looks like I may have egg on my face.

Yep, I got egg on my face. Lots of it. You can indeed turn them off. Yet I know I read in one manual or another that only the dealer can turn them off. Perhaps it was the the online manual or a Canadian manual. I am very sorry for any information I put up error. Nice catch and kudos to Mickiemac. I just read that turning them off is for USA only. So Canada can not turn them off.
