Thread: Steering Column Rattle Noise

The Column in our 2012 Venza with about 6K on it was replaced this week. The noise went away. I also feel that the front end handling is better, but that may be wishful thinking on my part.

They also replaced the radio which was so hot that you couldn't keep your hand on the faceplate after it "warmed up".

Both replaced with no hassle by my dealer here in Austin.

BTW... The "book time" to replace the steering column is only about 1.5 hours. Really surprised me that it is so short. I think they spent more time replacing the radio....

The new radio will do the same thing. I am from the radio business. The VF (vacuum floresent) displays do run hot compared to a LCD (liquid crystal) display. It is a "tube" that does run normally warm. Mine does too.

Wow! You already have 6K miles on a 2012 Venza? Toyota didn't start producing the 2012 model until 12/5/2011 and they weren't available at the dealerships until late December 2011. You must really do some serious traveling in your 2012 Venza!

Of course the only real change between 2011 and 2012 is the badge (LE, XLE, Limited) on the lower right portion of the liftgate and a shuffle of option pkgs and price reduction based on model. I have a late 2011 (10/2011 manufacture date) and have had zero issues but with all the postings regarding the steering column issue, I wonder if it is just a matter of time before my Venza starts developing issues. I sure hope not - the car is extremely stylish (IMMHO), very quick (FWD V6) and I'm getting pretty good mpg (25.3mpg) with a bit over 2K miles so far.
