Default Access to back of license plate

I will be using my Venza for towing a small camper. I did not get the rear view camera option because I need the camera at the rear of the camper. Since the monitor that I purchased has up to 4 camera inputs, I would like to install a camera at the rear of the Venza also so that it could assist me in backing up and coupling the trailer. My question is: does anyone know how to remove the large molded plastic piece of interior behind the license plate without damaging it?

I did find the ven_backdoor.doc posted by Rob under Interior LEDs. The document shows where the fasteners are nicely but I cannot seem to get anything behind them to pry them up. Any ideas?

I just took mine off and swapped a bunch of backlights on my Venza, I started pulled from the bottom of the door and works on the way thru the edge of the panel. You'll have to pull them off with a little force. The sound is kinda terrible in a way that you think u broke something... But it actually not. But pay attention until you get to the the 2 pillars (edge of the panel) There is a latch thingy that holds on to the above panel, make sure you remove and install carefully because it breaks easily... (I broke one of them) I hope it helps...

Thanks for the update. I did talk to my Toyota salesman and he suggested that when I bring it in for my first oil change, he would talk the service guy into showing me the technique. It sounds like you figured it out. If they show me any magic way to not break anything, I will post it here. They probably just direct you over to parts where you can buy a replacement for broken parts.

hi jdinga, do you get any technique? I'm trying to install a backup camera and need to access behind the back panel. I tried to use a little force but was afraid to use stronger force, and worried about breaking it. Can you offer any tips?
    Thanks!

Hi miscz, I did not have the nerve to force mine and the dealer was reluctant to tell me to force it. Sorry.

The panels will pop off but having trim removal tools will help to isolate the clips and minimize marring

    Example:

    Thanks Jdinga and nhcycle.

I took a peek through the gap and I don't know which one is the part that's detachable.
I see each 'button/knob' from the door side is attached to a C-shape lock at the panel side... but different C-shape locks have opening at different direction.

Am I supposed to pull the "button/knob" from the door side using force/tool? or am I detaching the knob/button from the C-shape lock?

I know what I said may be confusing....
