Thread: Alarm Sensitivity

  1. Default Alarm Sensitivity

Where is the control for the alarm sensitivity?

When I first got the car, the alarm seemed to go off with minor disturbances, but lately it's gotten much worse. The dealer's looked at it twice and told me "it's fine" and also that they've turned down the sensitivity, but it still goes off whenever a car passes it in a parking lot.. I've resorted to pulling the fuse for the alarm, but that's not an ideal situation.

Hello - welcome to the site!

I just talked to one of our techs here and they actually hadn't heard of a way to adjust the sensitivity - - BUT....

We have replaced a LOT of hood switches that are going bad.. no Venzas yet but Camrys, Highlanders, Solaras, Siennas, etc..

This would be part of the alarm system that's under the hood.. and will make the alarm go off if it senses hood movement.

As a test, try pushing down on the hood and seeing if it makes the alarm go off - if it does i'm betting that's the issue.

I'd say either way have your dealership check that part of the system out next time you're there..

Any advice for this issue when you press down on the hood and the alarm doesn't go off - but still periodically sounds off on its own with no discernible physical disturbance?

BTW, is there a fuse solely for the alarm that I can pull to stop this infernal car from making such a damn racket?
