Default Yakima roof rack with moon roof

Went to my local rack store (www.rackultra.com) to inquire about Yakima roof rack with moonroof. They told me that they already installed Yakima roof racks on two Venzas (with moonroof) and both came back with damages to the car (torn rubber molding of the door). These racks got sent back to manufacture and they willl not sell this product to any Venza owner. The did give me the option of Thule but stated that Thule will not give a guarantee on Venzas with moonroofs (because Thule did not design it for moonroof options).

So my question is : Has any one had any negative or positive experience with Yakima roof rack?

Hello: I have a 2011 Venza with pano roof and moon roof. I ordered the roof rails from the dealer and found out from reading forums that the rack will not fit. Called the dealer and they confirmed it does not fit a Venza with a pano and moon roof. They dealer also stated Toyota does not recomend installing a roof rack. I found a rack system at Yakima's site that is supposed to fit my car. How can I find out the real story about using a rack? I could call the Toyota main number, but I probably would not get to someone who knows the answer. I plan on calling Yakima to see if they have any info. If someone else here has info on this I would appreciate it. I personaly don't think it would be a problem since the feet would be setting on the metal part, not the glass. The weight of two bikes and carriers would be well under 100lbs.

    Thanks,

    Barry

I have a 2010 Venza with pano and moon roof. We got a Yakima rack for christmas 2010 and installed it a couple times without issue. The door frames have factory provisions to allow a roof rack. Also according to Yakima instructions you can't open or use the moonroof while the rack is installed. I am however looking into something a little bit thicker for the brackets.

I have 2011 Venza with sun and moonroof. Yakima recommends 58 inch cross bars. Does anyone know if 48 would work? I don't want them sticking out past edge of roof? Thx

Thanks Jim, looks great. Do you have problems opening sunroof, especially with a cargo box on top?

The yakima rack does not allow the sunroof to be open. I believe the sunroof would hit and the windscreen would hit the forward bar. However I only use it for a short weekend trips or camping stuff.
